The integrity of our products is based from the outset in our determination to work with only the finest raw materials. This does not necessarily mean the most expensive - rather it means that if we use a cotton linen blended canvas fabric, then it will be the finest and most solid we can find. If we make a mohair throw, it will be in the most luxuriant brushed mohair available.
The leather with which we work is a prime example of this philosophy. It is what we call in France "plongé". This means that, rather than being covered with a pigment (basically spray-painted), as is the case with most leathers, it is dyed in a vat with aniline dyes which color it but which hide none of the natural crease marks and small "faults". The result is a leather which is alive with character, markings and small color variations. If you are someone who appreciates the richness of nature, the smell of real saddle leather and the wonderful patina which builds up as such a product ages, then this is for you!
With all of our products we try to evoke a quality of a bygone age, creating items which you might well have found in your grandparents' old wooden summer house, or cabin, where you spent your childhood summers. Those old bags, hats, jackets or fishing rods were steeped in character and carried the marks of the previous generations' summers yet were still solid dependable friends.
Our simple linen shirt jackets are made in a fabulously chunky linen fabric which is made for us in Belgium. Again, a really honest quality which we stonewash in garment form to cheat a little and give you some in-built history. To sum up, we at Hidden Cabin will always give you the best of what nature has to offer in everything that we do, and will design and color these creations in our own unique way to give you something which is very definitely not mainstream and which stands out in its own unassuming way to the discerning eye.
